Give It All I Got
It seems I
keep experiencing a series of events
That winds up with my landing on the wrong side of the fence.
I try but can't identify this glaring social flaw
That puts me in the clutches of the long arm of the law.
I ain't
wasting time no more.
Gonna get up off this floor --
Put me on my feet and back on the street again.
Gonna turn my luck around;
I'm so tired of falling down.
Gonna give it all I got - until the end.
I know that
people used to say, "He's going through a phase."
But that was 30 years ago and I lost track in the haze.
I guess I ought to act my age and just try to play it smart
But I ain't having much success, 'cause I'm 21 at heart. . . .
I ain't
wasting time no more.
Gonna get up off the floor --
Put me on my feet and back on the street again.
Gonna turn my luck around;
I'm so tired of falling down.
Gonna give it all I got - until the end.
So I gaze
upon the wreckage of my wasted, miss-spent youth:
The cost was high and so was I as I struggled for the truth.
If I had it all to do again I might never see these walls;
But it's better to have lived and lost - than to never live at all.
I ain't
wasting time no more.
Gotta get up off this floor --
Put me on my feet and back on the street again.
Gotta turn my luck around;
I'm so tired of falling down.
Gonna give it all I got - until the end.
Gonna twist
that grip around
Gonna head it out of town
Gonna hit that road
'til I reach
The end. . . .
